ByRef, ByVal, COM Objects, and Excel

I'm working on getting things into and out of Excel.  In one scenario I copy an Excel Range or Rows from one Excel Worksheet to a Worksheet in another Workbook.  This Workbook then acts as a storage repository for the Range of Rows and is saved

Dumbest Thing EVER!

First day working on the new project and what do I do?  I do about the dumbest thing someone could ever do!  I managed to fat finger the password, WRONG, into the password and verification password when setting up Windows XP on a brand new Dell

Will Apple come to rescue my productivity? I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1720 about 11-12 months ago.  It has been a perfectly awesome laptop until about 2-3 months ago.  The specs on the machine are decent, 2+ghz proc, dual core, 4 GB RAM, 160

F*&! IE7

[RANT ON] Open Letter to Microsoft... I am thoroughly pissed at how ineffectively IE7 handles standard CSS, HTML, and ECMA Compliant JavaScript.  It is absolutely atrocious.  I recently put together a site that is compliant (it works in EVERY

SQL Server Analysis Services Authentication Freak Out

[Rant On] What is the deal really with the anti-user intuitive situation with analysis services when it decides that the data connection to a data source needs to use some arbitrary user authentication!  I had my SSAS cube set to process against

A Quick Link to Mythical Agile Shortcuts

I often get into debates when a group or department attempts to implement Agile, then does a half ass job, then complains about how Agile failed.  One of the issues is exactly what Ross Pettit wrote about in his Agile Journal Article, Mythical Agile

I've Returned, In My Mind, Back to Work

One of the notable things I heard at work today which I thought was just hilarious, is that Microsoft still spends significant time and effort publishing marketing crap with FLASH!!! I'm all ready to jump on the Silverlight band wagon, hell, I already

Vista Slaughtered

Vista really is a lacking Microsoft Product.  I'm not sure what the hell happened in comparison to Windows 2000 and XP.  Both of those launches went rough, as usual, but not noticeably so.  Vista however is just a dog within the industry

Deliver On Time or Working Software

It would be nice, and often can be done, a delivery of on time and working software.  The axiom of on time, working, or cost comes into play here.  I just want to discuss (and rant) a little about on time and working software. Sometimes during

Word Posts, Vista Reload, and General Maintenance

I sat down Friday afternoon to unwind and play a little Supreme Command. Instead of being able to play, some program that came on my machine with the original load started working away. Of course this action was without my permission. It created a

How to Be Heard?

In almost every business, even when there are only two participants, there is always a need to communicate.  The emphasis of teaching others to speak well, write well, and in general communicate their point clearly and decisively is very important.

More New News and BAD Standards Use by SOA Standards Company

So it really isn't news, but VS.NET 2008 is really coming from what I can tell.  I'm stoked about this, I'm really looking forward to doing Silverlight work too.  I think I'll probably even hack together a solution in VS 2005.  I've seen
